Refresh
We have been generously gifted free use of two fantastic properties in one of the most spectacular pockets of the Scottish Highlands, framed by some of the Highlands’ most striking Munros, beside a stream that feeds into the famous Loch Maree. Large but not excessive – and recently renovated – both cottages keep their traditional lodge-style simplicity whilst offering the comforts and amenities of a restful retreat: comfy sofas, log fires, well-equipped kitchens, and – at Heights Cottage – its own bar!
The range of activities is similarly distinctive. The secluded peacefulness of the cottages make them the perfect place for reading by the fire or playing board games, but those fancying activity have a plethora of options, from kayaking to shooting, climbing mountains to swimming in distant lochs, or visiting local tea rooms or whisky distilleries.
Purpose
The purpose of the trip is a chance for Young Adults (approx. 23–35 yo’s) at Saint James to enjoy physical, spiritual and emotional rest in an area of outstanding natural beauty in the Scottish Highlands. Put simply, it’s a chance to ‘Refresh’ together after an encouraging (but full on!) year so far growing, on Sundays, in Explore, and at Equip; serving on Music, Youth and Kids, etc., and juggling(!) all of that alongside the ups and downs of busy lives at home and work. It’s also a chance for us to come together, as one group from across different Sunday congregations and midweek-small groups, and grow in our friendships.
Plan
We’d all fly together, from Heathrow–Inverness, which is a short(ish) drive using hire cars to the accommodation.
- Depart: Friday 27th March: 18:00 flight from LHR
- Return: Tuesday 31st March: 15:45 flight from INV
Program
Our teaching program will be intentionally light, and partially self-led, in keeping with the purpose of the trip. We’ll listen to 3× talks by Matt Fuller on “A time for everything”, and Craig will lead us through 3× discussions on selected chapters from his book of the same title. Before that, we’ll have free time to enjoy quiet times, Christian reading, or just some peace and quiet!
