Pastoral Support & Book of Condolence

During this time of national mourning our church buildings are open to everyone in the community who would like to come in to sit quietly, to sign the book of condolences, or to pray.

Live Screening

We will be showing the coverage of Her Late Majesty Queen Elizabeth II’s Funeral in both Gerrards Cross and Fulmer on Monday 19th September between 10 am and 12.15 pm.

This is a precious moment for our community to come together in support of one another as we mourn. We will turn on the screens to watch the processions from 10am and will end at the conclusion of the funeral taking place in Westminster Abbey.

Members of the team will be available to talk or to pray.

8 September 2022

We are deeply saddened by the news from Buckingham Palace this afternoon that Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II has died, peacefully at Balmoral. Here at Saint James, we offer our condolences to her family, and those who worked with her and we assure them of our prayers at this time. We recognise that Her Majesty’s death leaves a gap in our national life, but we feel first for those who have lost a mother, grandmother, and much-loved family member. We join with those in the UK, the Commonwealth and across the world who will want to pay tribute to Her Majesty’s extraordinary life.

As the UK’s longest serving monarch, Her Majesty’s legacy is truly unique. In the days that follow, there will be opportunities to give thanks for her life and to pay tribute to her extraordinary record of faithful public service. Not least, we will want to recognise and celebrate her personal faith in Jesus Christ, which was an inspiration to so many of us and which shaped and sustained her in her leadership. It is a great comfort to us in our grief that Her Majesty knew, personally, the resurrection hope that is found in Jesus Christ.

However, as we enter a period of national mourning, we will first want to pause and reflect as we take time to lament the enormous loss that today’s announcement represents. We will be making space to do that here at Saint James and we invite you to join us as we mourn the loss of a monarch who famously said, at the age of twenty-one: I declare before you all that my whole life, whether it be long or short, shall be devoted to your service.” By the grace of God, her life was indeed long and she remained devoted to our service throughout.

For details of our programme in the coming days, including our revised Sunday services, further details will be provided below. As the parish church for Gerrards Cross & Fulmer: it is our great privilege to serve the local community, and especially at times like this. Whether you are a member of the church family, or you only visit us occasionally – or maybe you’ve never set foot in our building – we are here for you. Anyone is welcome here and we would be delighted to see you.

Jesus said to her, “I am the resurrection and the life. The one who believes in me will live, even though they die; and whoever lives by believing in me will never die. (John 11:25-26)

With best wishes
